Sport and Nippers Update

Today 27 September the NSW Government has announced the roadmap for easing restrictions as NSW reaches the 80 per cent double dose target.

From the Monday after NSW hits the 80 per cent (aged 16 and over) double dose vaccination target, eased restrictions will allow those who are fully vaccinated to participate in community sport. Until then, community sport including club based Nippers cannot recommence. What this does allow is for clubs, branches and members to start planning and preparing with some certainty for what will be almost a full summer program for surf sport and Nippers in NSW.

The NSW Government also announced that travel between Greater Sydney and regional NSW will only be permitted when the state reaches 80 per cent double dose. This will allow members to travel to participate in events (subject to the events complying with any restrictions in place).

Over the coming weeks, Surf Life Saving NSW will work with the Office of Sport to finalise the details and requirements for the recommencement of community sport. We will also be engaging with the respective Branch Directors groups to finalise SLSNSW state based events and major branch led carnivals.

We appreciate there will be questions regarding the easing of restrictions specifically in relation to Nippers and sport competition – please know that we are working as hard as we can with NSW Government and our sport sector counterparts to get you the answers that you need as quickly as we can.

We will provide you with further information as soon as it becomes available.
